Mrs. Shelby Thomas
Athletic Director / Middle School Math Teacher
Hello! My name is Shelby Thomas. I have been teaching since 2010. I started out as a 6th grade Math and Social Studies teacher in Mesa, AZ. I taught there for 2 years and then I made the crazy moved to Telluride in 2012. We moved here on a whim only knowing of the town from a country song “Telluride”. We fell in love. I taught elementary (4-6) math for 4 years at Telluride Intermediate School. We then moved to Norwood and bought a home which has landed me here. My passion for teaching came to me from coaching. Before becoming a teacher I ran and coached competitive gymnastics/dance facility for 10years. Sports is still in my blood and I currently coach high school volleyball and track. I am also the athletic director.
I was born in Texas and moved to Mesa, Arizona when I was 8 years old. I am the youngest of 3 and the only girl. I graduated with my Bachelors and Masters degree in Education from Northern Arizona University. I am 2 classes short of completing my 2nd Master's Sports Coaching and Administration from Concordia University Online.
I have 2 daughters, one has graduated (2018) from Norwood and one is in high school here as well. They keep me busy year round with sports. In my free time I love to go 4x4ing with my husband and I love to hike and camp with my family. I am a very adventurous person, so whether I am jumping out of a plane or scuba diving in the ocean, I love the thrill of life.
At Norwood Public Schools I have many duties including middle school math teacher, elementary math interventionist, Athletic Director and high school sports coach.
