Miss Catherine Kolbet

Middle School Science / Ag Ed

I grew up on a small farm in Montrose. When I first started college I wanted to be a Health Inspector. It was after a year of serving as a State Officer for FFA (Future Farmers of America) traveling around the state presenting leadership workshops to high school students, where I realized my passion was working with students. This resulted in a change of major and my knowing that I wanted to be a teacher. I graduated from Colorado State University in 2007 with a BS in Environmental Health and a BS in Natural Sciences with a concentration in Life Sciences. That fall I was hired for my first teaching job here in Norwood as the middle school science teacher. In 2013 I earned my Master of Natural Sciences Education from Colorado State University. In 2018 I began teaching agricultural education and started the Norwood FFA Chapter back up.  What I love most about teaching is watching students master challenging content while learning something new about the world around them. I am honored with the opportunity to offer an agricultural education program to students.  My own experience with such a program in high school greatly shaped the adult I became.  In my spare time I enjoy doing crafts, fishing, gardening, and spending time with friends and family. In the science classroom I hope to help students realize that everything is interconnected both in science and in life.  In the agricultural education classroom I hope to help students find and develop their passions that will support their future goals.
